General Kilmaine was born in Ireland, but his father's dislike of England caused the family to move to France and change their name when Kilmaine was still a child. Kilmaine served in the American Revolutionary War under Rochambeau, and quickly rose in rank during the French Revolution. Unfortunately, during the suspicious times of the Revolution his loyalty was often investigated due to his foreign birth, and he was arrested repeatedly but always released.
